scandinavian decor diy

My heritage is Norwegian, and I’m in love with researching my ancestors, I’m also in love with scandinavian decor.  I found this simple hoop advent for Christmas and I wanted to make it, however Christmas is so busy and time didn’t allow me to sit and play in my craft room.  But along came my New Years Party and I needed a cute backdrop for my food table.  So I did what any true crafter would do and turned my unfishished scandinavian decor piece into a new and versatile party decoration.

Step 1 source the wood

this cute scandinavian decor piece is made from 1×2 pieces of wood from home depot, and embroidery hoops.  the wood was cut to 4 feet long by the home depot guys.  You are going to want all sizes of hoops.  I found my 23 inch hoops from Amazon for $10 each best deal anywhere!! I also used 12 inch hoops ,   10 inch hoops and 6 inch hoops 

Step 2 get the  hardwear

I wanted chunky nuts and bolts in my design but you can choose how big you want to get your Lag bolts and wing nuts.  I got the 5 inch 3/8 wide set and then found a big drill bit to drill a hole big enough.

Step 3 drill

which brings me to the next step, drill the holes.  Make sure you drill them on the ends so that the track in clear to adjust the hoops in the design you want.  Clamp all three pieces of wood and drill all at the same time so the holes will line up.

Step 4 assemble

Take all your hoops and place them in the tracks, overlapping large and small.  you are the designer so have fun and use as many or as few as you want.

Step 5 decorate

You can keep it minimal and plain wood or you can use ribbons, holiday decor or party festooning to decorate the hoops for any occasion. I like to use pop dots so that I can remove the fluff and change it up for each holiday or party.   I loved using mine for new years and valentines but I love the plain  raw wood for in between holidays and parties just sitting on my dining room table.  Scandinavian decor never looked so cute.
