Modern DIY bud vase center piece

If you are like me I like to reuse and repurpose and recycle things rather than buy new things if at all possible.  I was needing a super easy simple centerpiece for a Baby-Q shower that I’m doing in a few weeks and found this darling idea on Pinterest.  It’s basically free and looks so fresh and modern.  In fact, this is so simple and easy you could adapt these bud vase centerpieces to just about anything. So let me tell you all my secrets in making these darling bud vases for your next party.

What you Need

1. Empty glass bottles I used Calypso’s a water bottle and my juice bottles
2. Goo  Gone to take off labels
3. White spray paint love Rustoleum 2x coverage 
4. Black sharpie
5. A piece of wood, tray, or cutting board

Step 1 diy vase centerpiece 

The first thing you will want to do is drink all the drinks and eat all the food from all the cutest glass jars in your pantry!  Don’t laugh but I sent my hubby to the store to collect all the cute glass drink bottles he could find.  Then me and my sister along with our kids had a drink tasting party.  It was kinda fun being a faux bartender for a bunch of minors Ha Ha. After we had our fill of Icy beverages and a couple of peanut butter sandwiches (because I wanted that jar too.)  I had the not so fun task of taking off all the labels

Step 2 diy vase centerpiece 

Getting off those pesky labels is not the most fun thing to do, so let me tell you my secret.  I dumped all those jars into the sink and let them soak in hot hot hot soapy water for a few hrs while I cleaned the kitchen watched the sunset and talked to my sis.  If you take a butter knife and saw at the labels so that the water can penetrate under the whole label then they fell right off in the water.  Make sure the labels that are covered in plastic are scored or that you peel the plastic off before you put in the water.  After I got most of the paper off I just had to remove the sticky residue.  I used Goo Gone for this and it’s magical.  It took all the goo off.  Make sure that your paper towel is dry and you don’t try this when the bottle is wet,  it works best when you use a dry paper towel.  Then after that pop, all the jars into the dishwasher and done a million free bud vases just waiting for you to make them darling!

Step 3 diy vase centerpiece 

Time to spray paint.  This is super scary for some people because of the crackle issues some people have.  If you want a more in-depth tutorial on spray painting glass go to this post How to spray paint glass. make sure your glass is clean and dry.  Go outside out of the sun and spray about a foot away in light even strokes.  Glass is tricky because you do not want too many coats or it will crackle.  So try to get it covered in two coats if possible.  I love the Rustoleum 2x spray for that very reason it covers really well.  let dry overnight so that its ready to be drawn on the next day.

Step 4 diy vase centerpiece 

This part was the most fun and I got to get my nieces into the craft doing this.  grab a sharpie and a straight edge.  I would highly suggest using a magazine or piece of mail for this, first because its disposal and second it will bend with the curves of the glass.  Then just add as many lines as you think are cute.  I also added a box where one label indention was as put a cute word inside the square.  Also, one vase had cute dot indentions and I just followed what was on the bottle.  That’s why you might want to look for cute textured bottles. 

Step 5 diy vase centerpiece

Find a piece of wood or a tray to set all the bud vases on.  This makes it look intentional.  I stained this piece of wood because I had it and I loved how it looked on my table.  But I also had a cute cutting board that looked fabulous and a blue tray that was cute as well.  make it fit your party or decor and it will be an easy centerpiece you will use over and over.
