Day two of the very inexpensive Ikea hacks gifts that you can make for your neighbors.  This one is my favorite one.  I just love how they turned out.  supper easy of course.  so lets get started.

You can do this two ways  the first takes a little more time but looks better up close  the other one looks great as well and if your not looking at them side by side you would never know.

Step 1 tape off the section you want painted. and sand any spots that are a little rough.  I also sanded the bottom of the board that said IKEA so that it was a little bit lighter.

step 2  choose your color.  I went with a beautiful pearl paint that I got at Target.  However Martha Stewart has a beautiful pear paint as well.

Step 3 paint vertically on the board for the first coat  then when dry paint horizontally for the second coat. and then vertically again for the third coat.  I creates and beautiful texture.  If you don’t want to take the time to do three coats just spray paint the tops  all at once white.  Then add one coat of pear paint to make it glisten.
Step 4  this is the fun part. I have metal stamps that I used to stamp sayings on the bottom of the board  like  “lets eat” “feed me”  and for Christmas “believe”  I then rubbed some paint into the letters to pop them out.

Step 5  tie a bow to the top and your done!  because it has a hole in the top it was supper easy to layer the ribbon and them stick in a piece of holly.  You could add a little loaf of bread or treat and this would be supper cute.  p.s.  I also took these photos before I oiled them with butcher block conditioner.  Tis the season to be in a hurry and skip this step forgive me please!
