Let me go through these one by one to explain why these supplies are such a great idea for an organized office!
If you are lucky enough to have a closet or an armoire in your office you will need little drawers to organize all the small stuff. I have organized crafters, office supply lovers, Do-Terra reps, and an Apple tech lover, and in all of their closets, I used some sort of drawers to organize their possessions. Drawers can be used for things that are hard to store like. Wooden skewers, iPhone earphones and chargers, stamps and envelopes, sharpies, crayons, things that are messy and you have a lot of.
You will need these if you use paper in your office. I haven’t come across a paperless family yet! Magazine holders are great for organizing different weights of paper. colored cardstock, page protectors, boxes of labels, and of course magazines. If you go with boxes you can also put tall cans of spray paint rolls of paper or vinyl and large photos, anything that is a weird shape and hard to organize like spools of ribbon, and craft supplies.
Filing containers come in a ton of colors and materials. I love my Lucite ones from Target with mint hanging folders, I use them for all my sheet music. I also used filling containers for this craft closet to hold different projects that are not paper, (go figure) glue, spray paints, and clipboards. Make sure you label each container or box so that you know what is inside. I made these darling labels for my hanging files, by getting cute plastic tags from the Container Store that you can slip in a piece of paper into. Then I wired them onto the file box, sometimes a little extra work makes things so much nicer.
You will need a few small jars cups or boxes to put things you reach for every day. I’m constantly using my jelly roll pens for my planner so I have to have them out where I can grab them fast. I also like my paper clips available quickly and a place to put my rings and bracelets if they are driving me crazy! Here is a link to my DIY for a glittered ring tray
Small little organizers are so important! there is nothing as frustrating as opening a drawer to look for the stapler and not being able to find it quickly. Your drawers should be extremely categorized because you get into them every day, but most important your kids and hubby get in there every day and it’s nice for them to see where things go because we all know how that looks. Huge bonus when your drawer is completely organized it doesn’t leave room for the random stuff we sometimes like to throw in the desk drawers. That will force you to think do I need this extra screw in this drawer or should I go put it in the toolbox. wink wink
This is often a very neglected area, either things just get shoved under the desk never to be seen again, or you can see under the desk and you don’t want any visual clutter so you don’t utilize that space. There are darling boxes from the container stores but also look at Target and TJ Max those places are like a treasure trove of cute products. Make sure that if you can see under your desk you use something that matches your décor and is happy to look at. Also, it helps if it has a lid to conceal the contents, and it can slide easily either with felt or wheels.
If you are a creative mind then a mood wall or board is a must. If you are more a business minded person a mood board will be a lovely place to rest your eyes and dream, because hello it will be filled with where you want to vacation soon, your darling children’s faces, and things and words that inspire. On the practical side, it can hold bills notes from the school and your kiddies artwork.
I feel like this is such a huge part of an office and people just throw any chair they please in their office space. Not only does it need to look cute, I feel like it needs to be comfortable, your going to be sitting your little hinny there for a few hours at a time so you need it to be perfect. Don’t skimp on this your back deserves a nice place to rest.
ok, I know most people are going paperless or really trying hard to. There still is so much to file, house papers like titles to cars, house repair, taxes. This is also a great place to have files for each child, they have a lot of school papers and school photos not to mention the darling cards they make you. I keep mine on my desk and I file anything I’m going to need in the next few weeks or projects I’m working on. I like to have easy access to them. Supper funny that you can see my mess behind me in the gold stripes of my Lucite file container I’m human too people! LOL
I know this seems weird to have on the list but it is the most important thing on here. If you are a crafter or DIY kinda gal then you need a big space to work on. Also if your a blogger or work from your computer all day you need a clean clear space that will not distract you from your tasks. We all to often get a desk that is too small for what we need because if our space in the room. I say go as big as you can or have a collapsible table handy for when you need to spread out. No one likes having a great Idea, and nowhere to make it happen. So get to organizing your office so that you can get to creating beautiful things.
