I was so excited to try this project because I’m in love with Lush! I think their bath bombs are so yummy and silky. I love taking a bath on Sunday nights to relax and rejuvenate for the new week to come. Ok so it really works out to be 2 or 3 times a month, but sill that’s 7$ a pop for a bath bomb and that my friends can get a little pricey for your weekly bath. I don’t like hard projects and this one was a bit tricky at first, but once i found the right recipe and knew all the tricks it wasn’t hard at all. So I let you in on all the secrets the other post aren’t telling you!
Here is what you will need
1 cup Baking soda
1/2 C. Citric Acid‘
1/2 C. Epsom salt
1/2. c Corn Starch
2 1/2 Tb. Coconut oil (solid)
3/4 tsp. Water
2 tsp. Essential oils
mixing bowls
food coloring
This project required me to shop at Amazon, not that I’m complaining its my favorite and easiest kind of shopping LOL . I was having a hard time finding Citric acid at a good price at stores like Walmart and Target but Amazon had every thing i needed in bulk. I also got a huge bag of Baking soda and my molds from Amazon. After you have all your ingredients Measure everything out. You DO NOT want to be measuring out the liquid ingredients while you making this. So measure it all before you start.
3.Now for the tricky part. Get your whisk and maybe a face mask if your sensitive ( the citric acid might make you cough) and start the mixing processes you will want to mix a half of spoonful of liquid into the dry mix at a time. You DO NOT want to hear the mixture fizzing, slow and steady. It’s so worth it to take your time because I ruined two batches by being in a hurry.(It made the bombs bumpy and ugly) this takes a min and your arm will get a great workout!
4. Time to make these puppies, The easiest way is to pack the mixture into a silicone mold and just let it dry over night. The next morning you just pop them out and package them up. The harder but more lush looking is the bath bomb mold. I found my from Amazon for 8$ geesh for the price of one lush bath bomb I got 6 molds and will be able to make a ton of these. You are going to want to pack half of the bomb pretty tight but leave a spoon full of the mixture piled on top, so the same for both sides. Then over the mixing bowl squish them together do not twist them just push all that extra mix piled on top together that’s whats going to make it stick.
5. My first recipe told me to wait for a few hours to let the molds set up but that meant all my extra mixture dried out and I couldn’t figure out how to make balls out of it. SAD I found one site that said to tap a spoon on each end to loosen the ball and let it dry over night, That’s the one the works guys! I had to whack my mold hard on the counter like a chocolate orange the spoon didn’t cut it. But it did loosen and I just popped it out and set it on a try to dry.
Guys that’s it your done unless you need a tag so that you can give this away for Valentines, Christmas, or birthdays. I liked to shrink-wrap mine so that they don’t chip apart and leave a trail of powder. But you don’t need too, they seem to hold up pretty good if you pack them tight enough. Ok from a Pinterest Fail to a Pinterest win! This is a fun one to do with the kids on a rainy day.
I just made 20 of these for my daughter’s High school dance team. Easy and quick to make. I really wish that it told me how many they made in one batch. (I got 4ish with this recipe)
