Paper crafts for kids
There is rising problem in our society with our darling kids being too plugged in. I’m such a maker, I love creating, doing projects with my hands, creating things to beautify my house and life. My older three boys don’t have that same drive, however my last little guy is a maker too. He loves to make things out of wood with my hubby in the garage, he love’s cards and magic tricks, and he loves his sharpies and adult coloring books. So I was so excited to team up with Paper Punk and try a fun new way to play from ages 6-99 LOL. Paper crafts for kids, (and adults) is nothing new but to kids who have grown up with a phone in their hands it just might be!
Let me tell you a bit about this company. Paper punk is a LEGO + Origami mash up that was invented by a Stanford design professor and a mom with one ambition, to enable people to be creative and make things with their hands in a digitally dominated world through hands on play. Plate paper transforms into voluminous #D master pieces with a few simple folds. No scissors or glue needed. That sounded great to me, so we decided to try our hand at making a few of these cute little things out of paper.
Paper punk then came out with color your own blocks and a cute fashion designer kits, so of course I had to try those out as well. What I didn’t count on was being sucked into coloring for and hour with my boy. Hello I couldn’t stop.
I decided to see if my Down syndrome son would color while he was watching T.V. Tanner loves to watch hours of T.V. and I hate that he is wasting so much time on such a mindless activity. It only took him a few min to get hooked on coloring the blocks. He spent the afternoon coloring instead of watching T.V. and wanted to color more. I almost started to cry, its so hard to find things that he likes to do and will stay engaged with. I might need to buy stock in this company LOL. Tanner had a hard time with the folding of the blocks but he tried to put them together, and I feel any fine motor skills that he attempts is a win in my book.
I have to admit that I was having more fun coloring the paper dolls in the fashion box. They looked kinda cute on my office shelf. My darling little neighbor girl fell in love with them (she had never seen a paper doll) so I let her have the kit so she could finish it herself. All in all a great activity that doesn’t involve a power cord. Getting back to basics is a good thing and these target crafts are a great find!
