Crepe paper flowers are on my mind all the time. Until I can finish this wedding backdrop I’m going to be obsessing about getting these done. I do love these little cabbage roses flowers. They are easier to make than the large dahlias for sure! They add such a sweet accent to the large flowers and the shape is small and compact. I love doing these in a darker color to be the accent. If you would like to watch the video of Studio 5 where I showed you all the fun things you can do with them and a short tutorial go Here Studio 5.
This is what you will need for these darling little flowers.
2. Take all the circles and make a pleat in the middle and glue, I know this might take extra time but will add to the curve of the petal and will make the flower look more realistic. Make piles of the petals and grab a 2 inch. Styrofoam ball, and cut in half with strong scissors.
3. Cover the half Styrofoam ball with the green circles, use a glue gun to apply the circles to the foam, this will be the highlight of your darling crepe paper flowers.
4. keep adding the green circles to create the middle of the cabbage rose. You can make this as big as you want but I liked just a few green centers and then I changed to white or light pink.
5. after adding the green and white circles for the center I start stretching the pink circles into a ruffly edge. The more you ruffle the more you rose will be frilly. I liked doing a few of each kind of crepe paper flowers. Some with ruffles and some without. They are both beautiful and will both add to the texture of the whole installation. Of if you’re just doing one then choose your favorite style.
6. Glue, glue, glue, that’s what you have to do. Making these crepe paper flowers -cabbage roses are super easy and yet super time-consuming. Sometimes you have to sacrifice some time if you want to make beautiful things. I do love crafting and love spending time making things with my hands. Sometimes your art will take a movie or two. Keep working till you are satisfied with the size and fullness of the flower. The bottom side of the flower will be a bit messy but have no worries about that you can glue a circle of paper over the mess when you are finished.
