Can you believe it’s already August or should I say it almost September?! Summer is my favorite season, and I never want it to end. Next thing you know, the kids will be back in class, and you’ll have the house to yourself again. But before that happens, why not send summer off with a bang? Below are some last-minute summer activities to do for some awesome memories before school starts back up. Let’s give summer one last hurrah!
If you’re looking to get out of the house for a few hours, a picnic is a great option for a last-minute summer activities. Grab some of your favorite lunchtime treats and head on over to your local park! Sit down and eat with your kids, and afterword let them burn off all the energy at the playground, or bring some of your favorite yard games for the whole family to enjoy! Either way, food and games at the park will call for good family memories.
As a kid, the drive in movies were my absolute favorite. As an adult, I still enjoy them quite a bit, but I’m not a huge fan of the whole “driving home after I fell asleep during the movie” thing LOL. A backyard movie night is the perfect alternative! Make it a family night, or have your kid’s invite their friends and they can even make their own cardboard cars and turn it into a backyard drive in. I speak from experience when I say that this is something your kids will always remember and enjoy!
Now we all know kids have a lot of energy, I mean a LOT. Why not put that energy toward something fun and delicious? They’ll get to shake and dance away the summertime heat, and enjoy the cold fruits of their labors afterword. The recipe I tried only calls for a few simple ingredients, so I threw some fresh fruit in for a little extra flavor! Your kids will be floored that they made their delicious treat all by themselves. However if this is not your thing and the kiddies are away at camp or say college I say grab this fabulous Ice cream maker from Amazon and make some adult ice cream just for you and your honey,
And when I say adult I don’t mean boozy ice cream although that does sound interesting, I mean flavors the kids just don’t like or instance basil raspberry, or lemon thyme, it takes 20 min but star-gazing with your loved ones will take all night.
If you have never heard of geocaching, it’s basically just a big outdoor treasure hunt. It’s super easy, and a ton of fun! I always feel like I’m on a big treasure hunt when we go. The best part is they are super accessible, and there might be one right outside your front door! They’re usually filled with a small token, like a toy or sometimes even some coins, that you can trade out for something you’ve brought or leave for the next person to find, and often have a small roll of paper inside so you can sign your name saying that you’ve found it. So whether you’re planning a family hike, or just walking down the street, check to see if there’s a geocache near you! Your kids will love the adventure of finding something new!
Hello gooey, delicious chocolate! A lot of things say “summer” but not many of them do it better than the classic s’more. We just got our first fire pit and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to have purchased one! If you’re looking for a fun night outside, create a yummy s’mores bar. You can basically put anything out that tastes good melted and/or with chocolate. Try some new things, roast your favorite candy bar in place of the classic Hershey’s My I suggest peanut butter cup, or a cookies and cream, in your graham cracker sandwich? Top off the night with some stargazing, and some story telling. Send off summer with a relaxing night outside with your family, and enjoy the last few moments of warm air and a choir of chirping crickets.
From theme parks to movie marathons, these six last – minute summer activities are ones you can enjoy with friends and family. Do you want to squeeze every last possible drop of fun out of your summer before you head back to the classroom?
