Mini Halloween pinata DIY

 

 

I placed these little favors at every place setting, and they were such a fun treat for all who came to my Halloween dinner.  of course, I filled them all with chocolate and candy corns all my favorite things.  I’m going to show you how to make these little mini Halloween pinatas for yourself.  This is such a fun easy project. I made 10 of them in about 30 min.  If you had helpers you would be able to make them even faster.

This is what you need

1. 6×6 sheets of paper I used the cute Halloween stack I got from My Minds Eye  I love their products and found mine on Amazon.
2. double-sided tape, I think the scotch brand is the stickiest
3. embellishments again from My Minds Eye
4.  black and white bakers twine
5. black tissue paper
6. scalloped punch not needed but adds so much cuteness
7. candy

First, take the tape and line one side of the 6×6 paper use a piece as long as the side of the paper so that you have a good seal.

Next roll the paper to create a tube.

Use your fingers to press the tube together.  make sure that you have a good firm stick.  you will not want these little puppies to pop open while they wait for the party to begin. I would even give it a few practice rolls to make the paper have some memory before tapping it together.

 

Now to cover the ends.  This is where the scalloped punch comes in handy.  I do want to give you a tip on punching tissue paper you will need to sandwich it in between two pieces of type paper if you try to punch them on their own the punch just shreds them.  You can also punch several at a time and save lots of time.  I cut mine using my tissue paper folded over 10 times and traced a glass because I forgot about my punch till it was too late.  However, I think they are so much cuter with the scalloped edge and I’m sad I didn’t think of it sooner.  

The easiest way to cover around the edge is to place the tissue paper circle on one edge of the tube and bring it over to the other side so that two sides are taped opposite of each other.

Then lightly tape the other two sides so that you have four sides attached.  If you do it this way then it won’t go on crooked.  Then just lightly tap the rest into place and you should have an even edge.  The tissue paper is thin so if you want to make it a bit more durable do this twice so that you have a double thickness.

After you get one side done then you will want to fill the tube with whatever little candy you have, remember if it has wrappers it might be hard to fall out if you pack it too tight,  I loved that the candy corns make it heavy and helped to slide out the dove chocolates that were hidden inside.  Then you will need to lay the baking twine over the opening.  If you want to put a little tag attached to the end then it’s even cuter!

Do the same thing to this side that you did with the first side taping and putting the tissue paper circles into place.  attach a sticker to the pull cord, for extra cuteness.

The best way to open the mini Halloween pinata is by having the string side down over your plate and yanking the string out which slits the bottom and all the little candy’s fall out!  Its so fun see everyone opening their treats and even more fun to steal your hubby’s chocolate before he saw that it rolled under the pumpkin centerpiece.  LOL  This is such an easy craft to do with kids even the kids at school would get a kick out of making their own mini Halloween pinata.
