Checklist for hosting Thanksgiving Day Dinner

 

 

3 weeks before

• Reserve tables and chairs if you have a large group
• Determine the size of turkey you will need and if you want leftovers.
• Purchase a frozen turkey to store in your freezer or order a fresh turkey to be picked up Thanksgiving week.
• Make sure you have all the staples and canned goods you need for the big day
• Create your menu and consider what guest can help bring

2 weeks before Thanksgiving

• prepare any of your Thanksgiving side dishes desserts bread or rolls that can be frozen
• If you will be using grandma’s silverware or serving utensils take a day to get it all polished up.
• Decide how you will cook the turkey and make preparations.

1 week before Thanksgiving

 

• iron the tablecloths and napkins
• Mark your place cards if using
• Clean out your fridge so you will have lots of room Thanksgiving Day.
• Check the day you need to start thawing and brining your turkey.

2 days before Thanksgiving

• purchase the rest of your fresh foods like produce, cheese, flowers, and leftover containers for your guest to take home the extra pie.
• Create your centerpiece and set your table
• Make pies and dry out cube bread for stuffing
• Wash produce
• Calculate cooking turkey cooking time.

1 day before Thanksgiving

• set out all serving bowls and label what’s going in them
• Make sure turkey is thawed completely
• Make side dishes that can be made and Refrigerator
• Thaw the dishes that were made in advance and frozen
• Take a long bath (this is mandatory!)

 

The big day

• prepare stuffing
• Preheat oven
• Cook and mash potatoes keep in a crockpot on low
• Fill water glasses with ice a half hr before
• While turkey is cooling in its juices heat side dishes and make gravy
• Carve turkey
• Take deserts out of refrigerator
• Place all food on buff
• Enjoy your family and friends!
