This hoop wreath is so cute and so fun I had so much fun making three of them, You can see the bottom of this wreath on the photo above. The best part of making a modern winter hoop wreath is that I could find everything I needed at AmazonI mean everything. This cute little wreath takes just 30 minutes to make. Get a few friends together and make a few they are darling as gifts when you make them mini sized! You can also see my other wreath making ideas Anthro pom pom knock off wreathBackdrop wreaths
other things you need that you might already have in your crafting supplies
hot glue gun
stain for the hoops
wire cutters for the picks
The first thing you need to do is decide if the hoops should be stained or left as is? I left one unstained because I love that natural lighter look in my office but stained the bigger wreath because I was hanging it on my white wall behind my tree and I needed it to pop! I found a small cans of stain in my garage. I have also used a brass ring and on another hoop wrapped it in yarn, so as you see there are lots of ways to do this. It’s perfect for every style of the house.
After staining you will need to decide what part of the hoop you will be using. The hoops come apart in two pieces. I was putting a lot on my wreath so I choose to use the hoop with all the hardware on the top. but if you are making a more simple wreath then you will want to use the hoop without all the extra stuff. Take the smaller hoop and hot glue it to the larger hoop by all the hardware this is going to be the bottom of the wreath.
now that the base of the wreath is done its time to add all the fun stuff! I like to make two picks one a bit smaller than the other. you can buy them already done for you or you can make your own like I did to match the Christmas decor I already had. I like to find three complimentary things like greens berries pinecones etc. and gather them together with some floral tape. you will need two, the reason I like to make one side a bit bigger it feels more organic that way.
making the swag is just as simple, use more floral tape to bind the two picks together putting the bigger one on the left. Because the picks have wire in them it makes it easier to bend them into a curved shape to get ready for gluing on the wooden hoops wreaths.
Hot glue the middle of the swag to the large part of the hoops see why I wanted the extra surface? Ths will create the base for your fun decorations.
The next step is super easy you will want to cover the middle of the swag with yarn by wrapping from the bottom of the pick al the way to the other side of the pick leaving a nice clean middle to adhere your pretty little decorations. See how the bottom one is wraped with a pretty gray yarn?
lay out what you want in the middle of your wreath first then you will want to hot glue your decorations into place. It might be a bit difficult but if you can glue them into place while keeping the wreath vertical like it is hanging on your door then all your added pretties will be in the right spot. you don’t want them all glued then find out they are crooked when you hang your pretty hoop wreath up! I actually used the back of my craft room door to hang my wreath and did all the gluing while it was hanging on my door.
You might find that you want to add extra little goodies onto the wreath. (can you see those gold billy ball flowers?) you can wire them on or just dab a bit of hot glue to the tips and tuck them in. I also (wrapped some small jingle bells for sparkle and a bit of jiggle when the door opens)
Attach a ribbon and your set. I am going to show you, how to make a ribbon that doesn’t look all wonky when you hang it. I like a clean straight line from my ribbon so I loop the large ribbon over the top of the wreath and then tie on some smaller streamers to hang down. The trick is to attach a smaller loop of ribbon to the back so that you can use that for the wreath hook and done perfect ribbon on your door and wreath. See how easy this was? A little glue and a few picks and you have yourself a modern wooden hoop wreath. Happiest of Holidays to all you sweet crafters out there.
