I’m mean how cute are these? I fell in love with these when I saw this post on Oh Happy Day. I was already doing a Studio 5 segment and thought this would be perfect to add to the party atmosphere! The more color and cuteness the better. I had a guy at my hubby’s work weld me some darling sturdy balloon stands, trying to figure out how to sell these!! lol but if you don’t have a welder close by, (who does) let me show you how I made my own Balloon stands out of what I had laying around.
I was lucky to find some extra molding and square of 4×4 from last years wedding projects lol. you will need to drill a hole the size of the dowel I used my hubby’s drill and just kinda guestimated on the size according to the size of my dowel. I didn’t even need to glue it in, it was a nice snug fit, which was great so that when I went to store it later I could just take it apart. Now that the hardest part is done the rest is a breeze!
Now that you have the balloon stand spray paint it white. I used a primer on my metal ones and the wood ones just to give it a smoother finish. And then finished it off with the colors of my party. Don’t worry about reusing the balloon stands you can always reprime white and then and choose a different color for the next party. If you are cringing at the thought of spray painting them more than once then use a white primer, it will go with any party and still look extra charming with all the bright, fun things added to them.
Now that you have your balloon stand painted you will need to tie all your fun honeycomb, fringe, tassels, festooning, and ribbons to the sticks. I wanted my festooning to be the same color of the balloon stand. As you can see however all the tie on’s are not exactly the same color, by mixing different shades to each balloon stand you will get a more excited stand. I find it hard to match things exactly so don’t! mix the same color but different shades to make it more eye-catching. I even used different kinds of ribbon to tie the puffs on. Its easier to tie the honeycombs on while the sand is laying down then when you stand it up to adjust the ties if necessary. tieing closer to the stand will make them easier to judge where they are once the balloon stand is standing.
It’s time to top it off!!! you must have a topper, it can be a large balloon or a honeycomb puff or even (my personal favorite) a tissue paper fan! and very large one at that! You only need some clear tape to make this happen. the balloon is easy as it has a tail that you can tape to the balloon stand. If you feel that it is too floppy then add a piece of tape that goes vertical onto the balloon itself!
The fan is an easy one just sandwich it in between the balloon stand and binder clip it from the back. The same goes for the honeycomb puff if you are using those. just find a place to put the sitck in between where it comes together and paper clip tight or use a small piece of tape to make it secure.
I loved how these came out, and I love how customizable they are!! The pastel theme is super fun and can be used for so many themes. I’m dying to see this done in other colors so if you decide to make these please let me see!! tag me on Instagram at @theglitzypear so I can see your fabulous creations and highlight you on my feed.
