A floating table for your next party? That sounds too hard and too expensive right? Nope, I fell in love with this idea looking at wedding food table ideas and saw the cutest bar idea. A plank hanging from a rope in a tree. I thought to myself that should be a table holding desserts! I wanted to see if I would be able to pull this off by hanging it from my deck for a few parties we are having this year. My hubby said OK, depending on your or in my case my hubbies skills with building you can make one of these in just 2 hrs. this would be so cute for an Outdoor Park Wedding like I did last year.
First things first you need to find some pallets. Call around to some businesses around you. Most companies pay people to come pick up their extra pallets and haul them away. I had no problem finding free pallets. However this project would be just as cute with a cool piece of wood and rope. Just use what you have or can find. I was dreaming of a thick piece of mahogany till my hubby told me it would coast about 100$ for that piece of wood!! so a free pallet and extra plywood we had looked perfect for me. Ha Ha
join both pallets togeter with the tie plates. We put one on each side and it looks so cool and industrial. You will be topping the pallet with wood so this just adds extra strength.
If you want a top like I did you can have home depot cut a piece of plywood to size like we did. Or cut it yourself if you are that handy. we used 1 inch screws to put it on to cover up the pallets that were two different colors.
I wanted the grain to come out in this plywood it was so pretty so i just used my butcher block oil from Ikea. You don’t need to do this step but it felt like a real table after i did that and looked amazing too.
use the 5 inch lag screws to screw into each corner. then attach the 1/4 inch quick links to the eye hooks .
Now for the part I wasn’t quite sure about attaching the Hitch ring with plate to the underside of the deck. I didn’t know how much these puppies held til my hubby said you can hang swings with them. So assuming our food isn’t 200 lbs we should be just fine. with that said no children will be climbing on this table in my presents.
Now all that is left is putting up the chain. Use the quick links to attach the chain to the table and the deck. I made mine about counter height because we are using it for a dessert table. as you see in the bottom of the photo I make a non hanging pallet table to add dimension and more serving space.
If you make an outdoor pallet floating table i would love to highlight it on my Instagram. If you want to see more wedding or parties Ideas check these out this Outdoor romantic wedding and Boho wedding
