1. Moving Apps-

Technology continues to surprise me year after year. Now there are so many resources for you to help you with your moving needs. For instance, if you need help looking for a new home across the United States, you can download a helpful app to help you find it without ever leaving your own couch. Apps such as Realator.com allow you to look at direct listings from MLS and allows you to look at schools, home prices and research the perfect neighborhood with the right school. If you need a visual way of keeping things organized in the chaos of moving, download an app called Shortly. It’s described as “the ultimate organized app” and helps create a visual inventory of their belongings with tags, notes, photos and more! 

 

2. Create A Customized Checklist:

Before apps, many organized individuals created a binder with customized checklists, moving tips, papers and items that are needed when it comes to moving. Having this master moving binder and checklist (moving checklist) make it easy to keep track of all the receipts, contracts, bills that have to do with the move.  This binder can also store financial documents, moving company paperwork, list of donations, donation recipes, contractor bids, medical records and all your moving tips. 3.Color Coding Boxes:

Labeling doesn’t have to be just with words, if you want to take a step further, color coding your boxes can make it easier, especially with children.  Various retailers such as Walmart or Amazon make it easy to create a color code system with various multi colored tape. For example, all the boxes that are marked pink can be your little girls room, yellow tape can be in the bedroom and blue can be for the bathrooms. This makes it easy to look at a quick color and know where it should be going and the items that should be stored inside. 

4. Donation List and Receipt Organization:

on a scale of moving tips 4 is a big one. While you are going through all of your belongings to give to others, make sure that you have a list for all that you are donating. Once the list is complete , decide where you want to donate them including Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill, The Salvation Army or any other businesses in your area. After you donate, you should receive a tax deductible donation receipt. Put these receipts in a small pouch in your moving binder to hold onto them, along with the list of any other donated belongings. 

5. Cords are my downfall .

When it comes to moving, nobody wants to get stuck with the twisted mess of cords tangled up in one box. As I am moving I like to tape the cords to the back of the tv or label all the cords before they are packed. If you seem to have lots of random cords or extra charging cords and boxes, place those cords in a zip lock bag and label it with a sharpie marker. Baggies are also good for any random thing that you might need to figure out later.  Rubber bands are also great for stacks of books magazines and mail that you don’t want to get lost.

6. Don’t Forget To Pack An Essential Box:

Having an essentials box the day of the move is critical so you don’t forget something important at the last minute. Some of these essentials could be credit cards, an extra set of clothes, medications, important documents, paper towels, trash bags, a first aid kit, bottled water or any pet essentials. Create a list of what to pack inside these bags too before the big day arrives so you know you have everything you need.
