Tinsel and trading the sweetest NY store around. vintage Halloween

Whenever I come to New York I love going to stores that are found nowhere else in the world tinsel and trading is one of these iconic places.  I first fell in love with  Tinsel and Trading when I read Treasured Notions, a book about how the store came to be. 

I’ve been to this little gem of a store three times, and each time I find a new little treasure that just lights up creativity.  And the wonderful artist Wendy Addison sells her collections of unique holiday treasures here.     

The new store  on 828 Lexington Ave. is quite a bit smaller than their older location, but it is still so charming!  You can still open all the drawers and peek inside to find little pom poms that have fallen off some beautiful trim and buttons and badges from the turn of the century.  Its truly an amazing experience to feel as if you have stepped back in time where women trimmed their hats and dresses with amazing sumptuous things. 

 The trim I was dying over was the one sticking out on the second to the top shelf on the right, can you see it?  well at 95$ a yard I had to pass but just seeing the sparkle and shine of trims made from gold metal threads was so fascinating. 

 The back wall of the store has this incredible painting I just love that it was painted in panels then hung up.  How fun to do this in a child room, and supper easy to swap out when they are over the lunch in Pairs stage!

 I’m in love with glass glitter and Tinsel has a ton to choose from.  They are so reasonably priced that I had to get two colors. 

 Vintage times and flowers of every color imaginable  Some are extremely expensive because 100 year old flowers are a little hard to come by. 

What fun it was to see all the fall and Halloween decorations.  Its so inspiring I just want to fly home and get into my studio to create some vintage magic!
