How fun is this little number for your summer door hanging??? I love love love the way that you can make this so personal to you. You know after the 4th and 24th I’m always at a loss as what to put up on my door. Its not fall yet and my spring wreath is not bright enough for the hot summer days. I needed a pop of color fun so I adapted this door hanging from some cute burlap ones I did for my outdoor fence and just made it a little more colorful and adding a TON of ribbons shocking right?
fist start by cutting 2 feet of chicken wire. I got mine at home depot, they sell a ton of different lengths and sizes I even found a mesh that I wanted to use (maybe next time).
ok now comes the tricky part. Use your wire cutters and cut off the bottom two corners so that you can roll it into a cone. I wanted a long cone so I use the whole length of the chicken wire. you could fold up the bottom to make it shorter but you know me go big go beautiful and then add a ribbon!! 🙂
You will need gloves or go slow and fold in the cute wires and adhere them to each other. just twist and tuck, make sure all the pokies are on the inside of the basket so it doesn’t scratch your door.
then find a half a yard of fabric and fold over and sew (OR NOT) to make a pillow case, and line your cone. It will take some smoothing and playing with but I love the wrinkly shoved in look, it gives it character.
Ok the next part is just an 1/8 of a yard of contrasting fabric or you can just use burlap which is darling as well. finish the edges with your machine or iron on tape and then ruffle it up.
When you are ready to hot glue your ruffle to the chicken wire remember to glue the fabric while its laying on the ground and then roll the chicken wire over the fabric so the hot glue isn’t dripping every where.
You are done with the cage. Now the fun part, stuff the middle of the cage with newspaper or tissue or grocery bags and then add flowers with extra long stems!!
The ribbon is my favorite part and I have a ton in my stash, so I just picked ribbon that matched the fabric and tied tied tied along with burlap and the same fabric i make the ruffle out of.
Add your house numbers with wooden tags from the craft store, or your name or a word, Then poke in your welcome pick in the top, again a wooden tag hotglued to a dowel. the printable was on wednestdays post, and your done!!! Welcome summer….. ok so we are half way through the summer but hey don’t you want to go out with a bang??
