I love my cute little mountains that I made for my transitional winter decor. They are the cutest and easiest craft ever! I showed them off during my winter decor segment on Studio 5 and had a lot of comments of people wanting to know how to make them. Studio 5 also wanted to know how I made them and wanted to film a little segment that will be airing soon, IN MY CRAFT ROOM! Can I just say I’ve been renovating this room for over a year and had to do a couple of 8 hr days to get it ready!! There is nothing like having people over for me to do a complete cleaning of my house. Hummm maybe I should do this more often Ha Ha. Anyway back to these darling mountains and how to make them. This is what you will need
1. Step one is to cut your wood into triangles this was super easy. I just took a ruler and drew my triangles on wood. Then I used a jig saw to cut out the triangles they are not perfect but hey neither is nature so there. LOL Again if you want to have a professional cut them, Home depot will do it for about a dollar a cut and I’m sure they will be a bit straighter than mine. wink wink
2. the next thing you are going to want to do is sand the edges! This is a must because ply wood when cut is not smooth. You don’t want any little slivers when your putting up your cute little Swiss mountains. I used a palm sander cause I wanted it done faster but sand paper works well too. Its just so cold here in Utah and my hubby was helping me in the freezing garage. Who am I kidding I was helping him cause I was too busy running back inside to get warm. LOL Thanks honey.

Just to top of the cuteness of these wooden mountains I added some little rice ligjts i found at target, for a few bucks. It takes the sting of taking down all my pretty Christmas lights. Who doesn’t need a little sparkle in the middle of winter. And that’s how easy it is to make your own little Swiss wood mountains. I think they look like they could be sold at a cute little Swedish boutique, don’t you think? And for just a few dollars you can make a whole mantel full of fun little wooden mountains yourself. I wonder if I could find some little skiers to stand by them? Stay warm and get cozy and enjoy this fun and easy craft.
What a coincidence! I was just checking your blog to see if you had posted this tutorial and here it was! Nice timing. 🙂 I was wondering if you could give us the base and height measurement of each triangle. Also, were you able to cut all of your triangles from the same sheet of wood? Did you use plywood or MDF? Are there five mountains on your mantel!
THANKS!
