Neighbor gifts Ikea hack #3 personalized plate, and free printabl

This hack was a goodie but oldie for me.  I’ve done this for a few parties to make it more personal.  But I wanted to try something new and easier.  It was a Pintrest fail!!  more on that later. 

ok this is very cute and my 12 year old loved helping me, cause well you  get to get messy.

Step 1   wash your 99 cent IKEA plates and make sure the sticker is off the bottom of the plate.

Step 2  cut out your background circle making sure to angle your pencil so that you get a good 1/4th inch bigger circle (to accommodate for the curve of the plate)

step 3 pour about a Tablespoon of Modpodge onto the back of the clean plate and smear.
 (that’s the fun part for the 12 boy BTW)

place the paper on top of the Modpodge and pour another Table spoon on the top of that and smear into place. 

Step 4  after it is dry spray paint the back of the plate white so that the pattern of the tissue paper can be seen better. 

Ok here is where it got tricky  I wanted to personalize the plates for a few families  and I thought I’d use my silhouette to cut out the names and put them on the patterned paper and then Modpodge.  Please don’t do this it will never work. insert sad face here! 

The modpodge gets trapped in-between the glass and the vinyl so it never dries. 

 then I thought I’d use the vinyl on the plate first then add the paper  but I forgot to invert the letters and by that time I was fed up with project and wanted to give up, 

I’m glad I didn’t give up because in the end it looked darling after I mirrior imaged the name,  and worked out well..  side note when using card stock you need to add a bit of water to the Modpodge and give it a min to soften the paper.  Its supper hard to work with, but if you give it time it will be darling.   Is this a project to make 50  NO!!!  but 10 is doable if you do it right or just use the cute tissue paper. (I’d do 50 of those)   I’m sure more of you know a better and faster way to do this and if you do tag me on instagram so that I can learn from you and your brilliantness!
