After my insta story post about me thinning my Nutella for the wedding I just did, my DM blew up with questions on how exactly I did this. Well guys your not going to like this I don’t have exact measurements but I tried 4 different ways of thinning Nutella, I”ll tell you what worked and what didn’t. Lets get started.
Please don’t do this!!! I tried this way first. Let me just say Nutella has a lot of chocolate and you just can’t put it in the microwave with cream and melt it. It seized up and was a lumpy mess. When you make a good ganache you heat the cream and then add the chocolate and stir. However I won’t name the blog this came from but it does not work the same way with Nutella and it does not get it thin enough. So stay far far away form the microwave!
This is a better idea, I used my mixer for the next three attempts. The problem with using cream is it makes things thick, creamy and fluffy, it was creating havoc with the texture. Now let me just say if you want a light mousse for the center of the crepe this is money! The cream just kept whipping and making the Nutella more and more fluffy. I’m thinking if you whipped the cream first and then folded it into the Nutella, you would get the best results for a fluffy Nutella mousse! Yummy but not what I needed for the wedding.
I thought this was a ticket, the milk would thin it and I’d be done. Yes this worked and worked well however it changed the taste!! When I tasted it, it tasted more like the chocolate sauce. I didn’t think milk would change the taste so much. (I don’t know why milk has a taste dah lol) So back to the mixer I went for the perfect way to thin Nutella for the wedding crepe bar.
Oh gross you say, me too at first, and the fact that I couldn’t find a blog that used water was a little scary. I did do a mini batch just to test it out and ding ding ding we had a winner. Not only was it faster to thin the Nutella this way but the taste was true Nutella! If you are a Nutella lover like I am, I don’t want a more chocolaty taste I want the chocolaty nutty taste Nutella is famous for. So this is how I did it.
I had the Costco two pack and yup that’s a lot of Nutella, I dumped both jars into my kitchen aid and started mixing. I started by adding a half cup of water and mixed until it was incorporated. Then I would add another 1/2 cup the same way until it reached the consistency of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Its thin people and you will use more water than you thought. I’m sorry i can’t remember the amount, however you probably won’t be trying to thin a gallon of Nutella for your families crepe dinner. LOL If you can thin your Nutella like your Hershey’s chocolate with water you won’t have to keep it in the fridge, however if you keep it by the Hershey’s syrup your kids just might start making chocolate milk with it and hey that’s one great glass of milk if you ask me!
