I bet you have lots of baskets organizing things like toys, dog supplies, and gloves. I so wanted to throw them all in the donate pile and buy some of these gorgeous bins from They were way too expensive to buy in multiples even on sale at 39.99 so I decided to take what I had and see if I could find some baskets that were under 10$ and see if I could get a similar look. Guess what I did and I like mine better because I could buy the size I needed for my space! Let me show you how I did it.
1 tint it spray dye you can get it on Amazon or at JoAnn’s or Michaels
2. Wicker baskets, but guess what this spray works on anything so plastic or fabric would work too.
First, if you are using your own baskets make sure you wipe them out and get all the dust and lint off of them. Decide where you want your stripes to be or if you want the dipped look and just want the bottom a different color.
Use painters tape to tape off the part that you don’t want to be sprayed. I put a garbage bag around the top of the basket and then taped it down where I wanted to paint. It was super easy and kept all the overspray out of the basket. I did the same thing with the baskets that had the stripe in the middle. I just coved the top and bottom with a grocery sack leaving the middle open.
The spray comes in a few colors but I found it best to layer a few colors to get the look you wanted. Because the tint it sprays so sheer I could decide how dark I wanted my stripes and if I wanted to add a layer of sepia over the blue color. I did two layers of blue a layer of sepia and then another layer of blue. I love the color it turned out so perfect for my bathroom towels or my playroom closet. as you can see I’m a basket junky. LOL,
I was easy to find white baskets at HomeGoods and I made a few more for the playroom. This was the easiest hack I’ve done in a long time. Easy high end looks for 10$ of paint and a half hour of your time. I think that was worth it don’t you think?
[…] If you want a pattern or stripes it’s as easy as taping off the areas that you don’t want to be covered in tint it. I loved the polka-dot effect of coloring the frosted jar from Ikea. and the striped vase is just a touch of color to add to my living room.
