Thanksgiving is a holiday steeped in tradition. It’s a time to use grandmas china bring out the silver and use only the best for your family. I’m here to shake it up a bit by adding a modern twist to our traditional Thanksgiving table settings. I was asked by Studio 5 to come up with some easy ways to take your Holliday table to the next level, so let go of all the ideas you have for setting a table and think of these fun new ways to add a modern punch to grandmas china. Here is my take on the modern Thanksgiving table settings and what you need to create this on your own.
yup, you heard me get out your accessories and lets deck that table. Yes, I mean the warmest cutest coziest scarves in your closet. I first got this idea while looking at all the cute clothes that are on the Cent of Style. online shop. They have the best basics and inexpensive clothes that are on trend! Anyway, I was so distracted by their selection of blanket scarves (they have over 25 styles ) I thought too bad those aren’t tablecloths. But then I thought hey I could make that work with a little adjusting and my modern Thanksgiving table-setting was born.
What makes this a bit more modern is that I used the scarves going vertically across the table so that each guest gets to share a scarf for their placemat. My table is quite large I can seat 4 people comfortably down each side with two captains chairs. The best part of this design was that it was so inexpensive they are only 9.99$ with my code GLITZY The tablecloth I was looking at Target was 35$ so I thought this was going to fit perfectly with my budget. My organizing brain also loved the idea that I could wear these after the party or drape them on my couch for a warm holiday touch. a 2 for 1 deal!! LOL
The trick is folding these large scarves into thirds. That gave enough space to put the large Paper chargers from Sophistaplates and utensils on the table leaving some of my beautiful white washed table to shine through. And a cool trick I taught you last year HERE is to use a tray or in this case a cutting board to stage all your fun centerpiece pretties so that when you need more room for the food you can just pick it all up in one fell swoop and ta-da you have room for the turkey.
The other fun thing to do with your blanket scarves from Cents of Style is to use them as a table runner. You could just use them flat but I loved the idea of smooshing them up and tucking darling little pumpkins and other decors in the middle to look perfectly farmhouse modern. This Modern Thanksgiving table-setting looks so farmhouse and right on trend to what I wanted to do. However, you guys all decided on my Instagram that you like the traditional colors better. LOL So who knows what one I’ll pick in the end.
I just have to talk about the power of paper here, along with the blanket scarves I did go up to my craft room looking for cute 12×12 paper to use as a placemat. I love this polka-dot paper from My mind’s eye (think. Don’t quote me on that LOL) I know there are a lot of fun Black and White Papers That would look amazing. If you wanted a bigger size of paper I would go with this next look its from Hester and Cook.
don’t you love the Black buffalo checked? This paper runner is so darling, Anything black and white is a win in my book. This would look great from Halloween to Christmas by just changing the centerpieces. You can also cute to make placemats as well.
I chose a more traditional look from Hester and Cook I went with this cute pattern. I love the pattern, I love the lack of pattern I seem a little fake because let’s face it I love it all! It’s hard for me to make up my mind about all these pretty things. My plates are full of a pattern but look so cute with this fun playful turkey toil background placement. Can you even see the cute name cards for your place setting, If you want to get a bit more formal or you want to make sure you get the seat closet to the kitchen you can jump up and grab extra food then use a place card to let each guest know where to sit. I personly will use these with a Thanksgiving wish for each guest, and on the back, they can write what they are grateful for!
Layer all the paper!!! I used two placemats The Thanksgiving toil and the pumpkin then add paper products for the salad and dessert plates. That means I only have to wash half the plates. But surprise, because I’m doing such fun festive table settings I can use my everyday plates and it still feels lush and special.
Last but not least is my table setting for the kids I used paper plates from Target and my very durable chargers from Ikea. I think I’ll switch out the white plate for a heavy duty Chnet plate, that will cut back on a few dishes to wash. I also put a cute treat on each place setting to keep the kids happy till dinner but of course, you could always fill those cute paper cups with carrots and dip or something a little bit more healthy.
I hope you got some new Ideas from my modern Thanksgiving table settings. I can’t wait till Thursday when it will be family food and fun! If you need more ideas here are some of my last year’s ideas on setting your table for Thanksgiving
