Wall Organization Tips
- Find a wall organization system that will fit your decorating style. If you are more modern Ikea bed slats work wonders. If you want to invest a little money the company Nineoco is who I used in my kitchen. Or if you just need a few extra things off the floor grab some crates, or a shelf. Whatever you do make sure that you can securely attach it to the wall. Here are a few more ideas for wall organization, pegboards, ladders, hooks, slat walls, screens, or multiple towel bars.
- where are the best places to use extra wall space? A shelf above a bathroom or closet door for rarely used things like seasonal hats or extra shampoo. Use all the space up to the ceiling if you can. Behind a door it could be a closet door for purses or hats or cupboard door for extra spoons or spices. What about beside the TV or fireplace. You could use floating shelves for books or kids toys. And every 90 inch corner is available for little shelves to hold books shoes kids toys or kitchen supplies. Look around you have more wall space than you think.
- The size of the shelves or crates are important for you wall organization. Think about what you are storing on these shelves. if you need to store plates then look for 10-12 inch shelves if you need office supplies a 6-8 inch shelf will work as well.
- Ok now let’s talk about how to attach your wall organization shelf or bin to the wall. Find the studs to screw in the pieces using 2 inch screws, or use molly bolts if you can’t find the studs, so that you can attach your heavy shelves or bins. You don’t want to go to all the trouble of creating storage and have it fall off the wall once you fill it up with jars or books. Keep in mind the more screws you use the more sturdy it will be. I used 16 screws in my kitchen wall organizer from NINEO.
- You are using open wall space, the things that you will be storing should be disguised in a bin or basket. Somethings might be cute enough to display. You don’t want to create more places to get cluttered. Make sure you have a few bins or cute containers on hand to hide all the things. Here are some of my favorites are plastic bins from container store and Mdesign, you can fit a lot of things in these containers and they are opaque so you can’t see what is in side! just make sure you label it. Another thing i love to organize in are glass jars. The container store has the cutest ones but IKEA also had some at half the price and looked very similar, Mason jars and Costco trail mix containers also look cute if you put ribbon or twin in them.
- Label the containers so you don’t have to keep looking into them to figure out what’s inside. I love Paper and Pear labels from Etsy. So inexpensive and modern.
No more telling me your space is too small for all your things. But remember even if you have a ton of storage space you only want to keep things you love and things you use. The rest you should let go of and hope that others will love and use them. If you have any question on how i use wall organizer let me know, or if you have a great new idea I want to see it.
