Welcome ladies! especially if you just came from Libbie’s blog A Life Unfolding! I’m loving all these fun outdoor space ideas. I have a few more for you. We have a big beautiful deck and love spending all summer eating and hanging out there. I’ve had the same outdoor table and chairs for 20 years !! I changed out my chair pads last year but thought I’d do a little bit more this year to make it even better. So here are some simple tips for turning your deck into a livable outdoor room.
Start with your base in this case the wood deck floor! We would burn our feet all summer long on our Trex deck, it gets to over a 100* in July here in Utah. It was mandatory that we use rugs in this space. Our old rugs from target were 8 years old and were literally disintegrated and ripping, they had to go. I got a killer deal on some darling neutral outdoor rugs from botiquerugs.com.
this one is the HAYNESVILLE and the one by the fireplace is the COWEN
I chose not to have them match because I loved the contrast. But I kept the colors light and neutral so that they will go with my changing color schemes, if i choose to change them out year to year.
Adding colorful pillows and blankets is a quick and easy way to add comfort and a high-end look for little money when your wanting an inexpensive deck makeover. I mixed and matched outdoor pillows that I found at Target’s dollar spot. They mixed just fine with my inexpensive $5 Ikea ones. Just make sure when you are choosing pillows that they are made for the outdoors. The throws however you will need to bring in each night or opt for a water proof trunk which is our next decor tip.
The best investment was our outdoor trunk. (This one is on sale) We store all our yard toys blankets and pool towels for the kids. As a professional organizer using pieces like this is a time saver (you don’t have to run in the house every 10 minutes) and (it looks amazing.) we also store our hiking stuff in this box so we can grab and go. Plants and Flowers I know I know who wants to water them all season? I defiantly don’t!! Don’t tell but I got the cutest plants and flowers from Ikea, Amazon, and Target. They look so real and it adds a bit of resort to my extra dry state here in Utah. I also love adding bamboo lanterns, I can add my citronella candle in them and they look darling.
I have commercial outdoor lighting because we leave ours up year round. I the 5 years we have had them up I’ve only lost a few bulbs to heavy storms. Now these industrial lights come in white and I so want to change mine out, but I wont until we can redo the entire space, but I’m pretty sure that’s going to be more than an inexpensive deck makeover LOL.
I think the key to a great outdoor space is setting up little zones, fire pit, dinning, and café tables, by using rugs and accessories. I always feel better when I start my day eating breakfast outside or watching the sunset at the end of a long day. But real key is making sure that patio door is unlocked and ready for you to relax in your outdoor spaces.
